The Croatia Open began in 1990 when Croatia was part of Yugoslavia and is the oldest professional tennis tournament in the country. The inaugural tournament was won by Yugoslavian Goran Prpic, who beat Goran Ivanisevic in the final. 

Spanish players have enjoyed a great deal of success at the Croatia Open, winning the tournament 10 times in 20 years, although five of those were won by Carlos Moya. In 2012, Marin Cilic became the first Croatian champion of the event when he Marcel Granollers in the final.

Italian Marco Cecchinato is the defending champion having won the 2018 final against Argentina’s Guido Pella.
