Daniil Medvedev’s tough 2025 season took another hit right at the start of the grass swing, as he went down in straight sets to underdog Reilly Opelka in the quarterfinals in ‘s-Hertogenbosch last week.

The Russian has struggled for form and results all year, and it’s cost him dearly — he’s now dropped out of the ATP top 10.

Grass has never been Medvedev’s favourite surface, but he’s had some decent success on it in the past. He’ll need to tap into that experience over the next few weeks if he wants to stop the slide and steady his rankings.

One of his better runs on grass came right here in Halle back in 2022, when he reached the final off the back of a fairly soft draw. However, he couldn’t get past Hubert Hurkacz in the title match.
