Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Form

With a first-time champion guaranteed at the French Open, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova looks relatively experienced – none of the other three women remaining have even made a Grand Slam quarterfinal before.

Pavlyuchenkova had played six coming into this French Open, and got her first win with a 6-7(2), 6-2, 9-7 victory over Elena Rybakina. It was Pavlyuchenkova’s third straight three-set win after beating Aryna Sabalenka and Victoria Azarenka. She weathered the storm of Rybakina’s devastating shot-making and was both the steadier and more creative player.

These qualities should stand her in good stead against Zidansek. Pavlyuchenkova has now won 10 of her last 11 matches and is on a career-best run of form.

Tamara Zidansek Form

Tamara Zidansek had never won a match at the French Open before this year or been to the main draw of a Grand Slam. But since being two points from defeat against Bianca Andreescu in the first round she has been unstoppable.

The 2021 Bogota finalist went on to beat a slew of good opponents including Sorana Cirstea, and then played one of the matches of the tournament so far against Paula Badosa. Zidansek showcased offensive weapons, particularly on the heavy forehand, that we didn’t know she had and held her nerve to beat an up-and-down Badosa 7-5, 4-6, 8-6.

Zidansek hit her forehand with a level of accuracy and attack which has been unprecedented so far in her career, but she also benefited from a lot of unforced errors and nerves from Badosa.
