Simona Halep started the year with a quarter-final exit at the Adelaide International and semi-final defeat to Garbine Muguruza in the Australian Open.
The Romanian bounced back by winning the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, taking out Ons Jabeur, Aryna Sabalenka, Jennifer Brady and Elena Rybakina.
Halep won the Prague Open title on her return to action, getting past Polona Hercog, Barbora Krejčíková, Magdalena Fręch and Irina-Camelia Begu before defeating Elise Mertens 6-2 7-5 in the final.
In Rome two weeks ago, Halep recorded comfortable straight sets wins over Jasmine Paolini and Dayana Yastremska. Yulia Putintseva retired in the quarter-final to send Halep through to face Muguruza, who she defeated 6-3 4-6 6-4 on Sunday. The final against Karolina Pliskova was a non-affair with Halep winning the first set 6-0 and being a break up in the second when the Czech retired.
Halep won her first round tie against Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets on Monday with a routine 6-4 6-0 victory. She followed that with a 6-3 6-4 win over fellow Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu on Wednesday.

Anisimova underlined her potential when defeating Halep in straight sets at the quarter-final stage of last year's French Open.
The young Moscow-born American talent started 2020 with promise, defeating Kateryna Kozlova, Daria Kasatkina and Eugenie Bouchard en route to the semi-finals of the ASB Classic in Auckland. She lost to Serena Williams in straight sets in the last four.
Anisimova was beaten in the first round of the Australian Open by Zarina Diyas 6-3 4-6 6-3, and lost her opener at the Dubai Duty Free Championship to Barbora Strycova. It was another tight three-setter as Anisimova lost 7-6 2-6 6-4.
Having beaten Ekaterina Alexandrova and Elina Svitolina at the Qatar Open, Anisimova withdrew from her third round clash with Svetlana Kuznetsova.
The teenager reached the last 32 of the Western & Southern Open and US Open when tennis returned, losing to Maria Sakkari in straight sets in the latter at Flushing Meadows. She reached the same stage at the Italian Open too, but lost her opener in Strasbourg.
On her return to the French Open, Anisimova has enjoyed straight forward 6-2 6-0 wins over both Tamara Korpatsch and Bernarda Pera to set up another showdown with Halep.
