Cameron Norrie vs Tomas Machac Preview

As their rankings suggest, Tomas Machac has been in better form recently and is playing at a noticeably higher level compared to Cameron Norrie. The only real concern for him going into this match is his shaky fitness.

If he’s feeling fit, healthy, and able to play closer to his potential, he should have the tools to get the better of Norrie.

Cameron Norrie Form

Cameron Norrie is enjoying a solid run in Geneva this week, picking up three wins on the trot starting from the qualifying rounds. He’s chalked up impressive victories over both Jenson Brooksby and Tomas Machac along the way.

Believe it or not, this is the first time all season that Norrie has managed to string together three wins in a row. It’s been a tough few months for him on court, with his confidence clearly taking a knock. He’s been struggling to close out matches, and that’s seen him tumble quite a bit down the rankings.

If he can add another win on Wednesday, it’ll be his third quarterfinal of the year and his first since Delray Beach back in February.

Last year, Norrie had the ranking and freedom to skip smaller tournaments like this, choosing instead to take a break before the French Open. This means he’s got plenty of points to gain in Geneva. A good result here could go a long way in helping him stay clear of slipping out of the top 100.

Tomas Machac Overview

  • Current rank: 21
  • Career high rank: 20
  • ELO rank: 19
  • Season record: 16-8
  • Season record on clay: 2-3
  • Geneva best result: Runner-up in 2024
  • Form against non-top-50 players: 10-3 in 2025

Tomas Machac Form

Tomas Machac, on the other hand, has ranking points to defend in Geneva this week. This is where he played his first-ever final on the main tour back in 2024, where he ended up losing to Casper Ruud.

It’s going to be a tough ask for the Czech, as his current form and fitness are not quite where they should be. Since his breakthrough title run in Acapulco in March, Machac has only managed to win four matches and has had a couple of fitness setbacks along the way.

Those issues have seen him withdraw or retire from matches twice in recent months, and they’ve clearly had a negative impact on his overall performance. He’s often been outlasted in tight matches because he simply couldn’t keep up physically.

In fact, four of his five matches so far during this clay swing have gone the distance, and he’s lost three of them.

Verdict

Machac has the edge in form and level, but fitness remains a concern. If he’s physically ready, he’s well-placed to beat Norrie.
