Marton Fucsovics vs Novak Djokovic Preview

It’s never a good idea to bet against Novak Djokovic in a tennis match, no matter his current form—that’s the reputation he’s built over the years. However, given that he’s rusty, lacking confidence, and looks vulnerable right now, it’s hard to back him at such short odds against a potent opponent like Marton Fucsovics, who has a strong track record at this venue.

Fucsovics has a solid chance to pull off an upset here. Even if he can’t fully rise to the occasion mentally, he should still keep the match very competitive and cover the handicap games.

Marton Fucsovics Form

This venue in Geneva has been good to Marton Fucsovics in the past, and once again, it’s helped him break his losing streak and find a rare win on the main tour this year.

It was here in Geneva back in 2018 that the Hungarian claimed his first ATP title, beating the likes of Stan Wawrinka and Frances Tiafoe during his debut at the event.

Before this week, Fucsovics had made it past the first round on the main tour just once all year—and that was also at a tournament where he had previously lifted the trophy, in Bucharest, where he went on to reach the semifinals.

His last two appearances in Geneva, in 2019 and 2021, ended in the second round. He’ll need a big performance this Wednesday to avoid another early exit, as he faces one of the sport’s all-time greats, Novak Djokovic.

Fucsovics has won just three of his 31 career matches against top-10 opponents, with his last victory coming two years ago in Stuttgart.

  • Form against non-top-100 players: 10-2 since 2024

Novak Djokovic Form

Novak Djokovic risks heading into the French Open without a single win on clay this season. To avoid that and get some much-needed preparation for the second Grand Slam of the year, he’s making a rare appearance at an ATP 250 event in Geneva.

The Serbian has played just two matches on clay in 2025 so far and lost both in straight sets—to Alejandro Tabilo in Monte Carlo and Matteo Arnaldi in Madrid.

His semifinal finish in Geneva last year was considered disappointing, but given his current struggles, he’d likely take that result in a heartbeat this time around. That’s how rough things have been for him on tour lately.

Djokovic’s performance and confidence have hit an all-time low in recent months. Opponents who once feared facing him—often losing the mental battle before stepping on court—are now starting to believe they can beat him and claim a career-defining win.

Typically, Djokovic suffers just one or two early exits in an entire season. But in just five months of 2025, he’s already endured four first-round losses—the most he’s had in a single season since 2006.

Verdict

Djokovic is usually a safe bet, but right now he looks off his game and vulnerable. Against a confident Fucsovics—who’s done well at this venue—it’s tough to back Novak at short odds.

Fucsovics could cause an upset or at least keep things close enough to cover the spread.
