Katerina Siniakova vs Elena Rybakina Preview

Elena Rybakina arrives in Berlin as a top contender, opening her campaign with a straight-sets win over Ashlyn Krueger and aiming for her fifth consecutive grass-court quarterfinal. Katerina Siniakova, meanwhile, snapped a six-match main-draw losing streak with a win over Viktoriya Tomova after advancing through qualifying.

Siniakova’s current form may not be enough to trouble a player of Rybakina’s caliber, but she has the serve to hold comfortably at times and keep the scoreline respectable.

Katerina Siniakova Form

Katerina Siniakova finally ended her six-match losing streak in main-draw matches on tour with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win over Viktoriya Tomova.

Earlier this week, she advanced through the qualifying rounds with straight-set victories over Mia Pohanková and Ashlyn Krueger.

The Czech has endured a disappointing season, suffering first-round exits in nine of her twelve tournaments so far. Her only notable results include a semifinal run in Cluj and a third-round showing in Indian Wells.

Last year, Siniaková reached the quarterfinals in two of her three grass-court tournaments, including here in Berlin, where she claimed impressive wins over top-20 opponents Emma Navarro and Qinwen Zheng before falling to Jessica Pegula.

Elena Rybakina Form

Elena Rybakina advanced to the second round in Berlin with a straight-sets win over lucky loser Ashlyn Krueger, 6-3, 7-6. She is now one win away from her fifth consecutive grass-court quarterfinal.

She arrives in Berlin following a frustrating campaign in London, where she fell to 37-year-old Tatjana Maria in the quarterfinals despite creating 12 break-point chances.

The Kazakh recently captured the title in Strasbourg and reached the semifinals in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, along with fourth-round runs at the Australian Open, French Open, and Indian Wells. Still, these results haven’t been enough to preserve her top-10 ranking, highlighting a slight dip compared to her strong 2024 campaign.

This is Rybakina’s fourth appearance in Berlin, and she has yet to win her second match at the event. She reached the quarterfinals in 2024 after a first-round bye but lost in the second round in both 2021 and 2023.

Verdict

Elena Rybakina enters as the favorite, backed by stronger form and momentum. However, Kateřina Siniaková’s comfort on German grass—where she has reached four of her five career grass-court quarterfinals, including two finals in Bad Homburg—adds an interesting dynamic to this matchup.

A competitive battle could be on the cards. The value lies in over 18.5 games and Rybakina to win.
