Liudmila Samsonova powered into the Berlin semifinals with a dominant 6–1, 6–1 victory over world No. 13 Amanda Anisimova, wrapping up the match in under an hour.

Earlier in the week, she spent more than six hours on court battling through back-to-back three-set wins over Naomi Osaka and Jessica Pegula.

The result comes at the right time for Samsonova, who suffered a disappointing first-round exit in ’s-Hertogenbosch last week, where she lost her title defense to a player ranked outside the top 200.

Berlin has been a venue of mixed fortunes for the Russian. This is her second semifinal in five appearances, having lifted the title on debut in 2021 but managing just one main-draw win across the next three editions.

Samsonova owns a 9–8 record in tour-level semifinals. Two of those wins came on grass, both en route to titles in Berlin 2021 and ’s-Hertogenbosch 2024.

This marks her third semifinal of the season. She previously lost to Madison Keys in Adelaide and defeated Danielle Collins in Strasbourg.

Xinyu Wang advanced to the Berlin semifinals after Paula Badosa retired from their quarterfinal match while trailing 1–6.

This is Wang’s most successful run on grass to date. Coming through the qualifying rounds, she has won five matches this week, including standout victories over Ons Jabeur, Daria Kasatkina, and Roland Garros champion Coco Gauff.

The 23-year-old arrived in Berlin with modest form, having lost seven of her previous eight main-draw matches. Prior to this week, she had managed multiple main-draw wins in only two events this season: Indian Wells and Singapore.

This is her second semifinal of the year, following her run in Singapore where she lost to Elise Mertens. Overall, Wang holds a 0–6 record in WTA semifinals, with all losses coming in straight sets.
