Paula Badosa enters the quarterfinal as the clear favorite, having dispatched world No. 9 Emma Navarro in straight sets earlier this week. The Spaniard has compiled a solid 10–7 record against top-50 opponents this season and brings significantly more grass-court experience to the matchup.

In contrast, Xinyu Wang is appearing in her first career grass-court quarterfinal and has yet to establish consistent success outside the Asian circuit, making this a steep challenge against a more seasoned opponent.

Paula Badosa advanced to her second career grass-court quarterfinal with a straight-sets win over world No. 9 Emma Navarro, 7–6, 6–3, in the second round in Berlin.

This marks her third quarterfinal appearance of the 2025 season. She holds a 1–2 record at this stage, with her lone win coming against Coco Gauff at the Australian Open.

Her two losses came against Daria Saville in Mérida and Laura Samsonova in Strasbourg.

Prior to this week, Badosa had managed just four main-draw grass-court wins outside of Wimbledon, where she reached the second week in 2021, 2022, and 2024.

Two of those victories came in Bad Homburg, the site of her only previous grass quarterfinal, where she fell to Diana Shnaider.

Xinyu Wang Form

Wang Xinyu has shown steady progress throughout the week in Berlin, beginning with hard-fought three-set victories over Talia Gibson and Ons Jabeur in the qualifying rounds.

Since entering the main draw, she has elevated her game significantly, securing back-to-back straight-set wins over top-20 opponents, dismissing Daria Kasatkina 6–3, 6–2 and recently crowned French Open champion and world No. 3 Coco Gauff 6–3, 6–3.

This run marks her first time winning multiple main-draw matches at tour level since March and her second quarterfinal appearance of the season. She previously reached the semifinals in Singapore, defeating Jil Teichmann in the quarterfinal.

It also represents her first career quarterfinal on grass, having previously fallen in the Round of 16 at both Wimbledon 2024 and here in Berlin in 2022.

Wang holds a 6–4 career record in quarterfinals and is currently riding a four-match winning streak at this stage. Five of those wins coming on the Asian circuit.

Paula Badosa’s grass-court experience gives her the edge, provided she stays physically fit. Wang has impressed this week, but her success outside the Asian circuit is limited. A tight three-set win for Badosa looks likely.
