Hall of Fame Open Tennis History
The Hall of Fame Open has been staged every year in July since 1976 on the same grounds that originally hosted the US National Championships, which has since relocated to New York and is now the US Open.
The tournament was part of the Grand Prix tennis circuit between 1976 and 1989, before the ATP Tour took over as the official tour for men’s tennis.
Miller Lite were the title sponsors for the Hall of Fame Open’s first eight years, before being replaced by Volvo from 1985 to 1990. Miller Lite then returned between 1991 and 2003.
Campbell’s took over title sponsorship duties from 2004 and 2012, and after four years without a lead sponsor, Dell Technologies signed on for the 2017 and 2018 events. This year’s tournament is again without a title sponsor.
The winner of the Hall of Fame Open wins the Van Alen trophy, named after tennis Hall of Fame founder Jimmy Van Alen.
