2019 Hamburg European Open Top Contenders

Dominic Thiem (3.25)

Dominic Thiem is back on his favoured surface after an all-too brief apperance at Wimbledon. The Austrian top seed cemented his status as the second-best clay court player in the world by reaching a second successive French Open final, and he is the favourite to continue that form in Hamburg this week.

Alexander Zverev (6.00)

Alexander Zverev has not been able to hit the same heights as last year, but the German No. 1 remains a leading player on the ATP Tour and a favourite for the Hamburg title. He has compiled a 4-4 win-loss record at this tournament so his results are mixed.

Fabio Fognini (13.00)

Fabio Fognini claimed the biggest title of his career when he won the Monte Carlo Masters in May and he has maintained solid, if not spectacular form since. The Italian is always a danger on clay and has a good chance of winning the Hamburg title.

Nikoloz Basilashvili (19.00)

Nikoloz Basilashvili returns to defend his Hamburg title after an ordinary grass court swing, the Georgian proving once again his best results come on the clay. Basilashvili can be inconsistent but when his game clicks he has the ability to challenge the best.

Richard Gasquet (21.00)

Richard Gasquet is enduring a difficult season blighted by injury, winning just eight matches and losing seven. The veteran Frenchman was once a player most would want to avoid in a draw, but at present he appears to pose little danger to the title challengers.

Jan-Lennard Struff (23.00)

Jan-Lennard Struff produced a consistent run of results during the European clay court swing and did also did well on the grass. Now back on clay and with home support, the German has form and game to contend in Hamburg.

Nicolas Jarry (29.00)

Nicolas Jarry clinched the first title of his career on Sunday when he capped an impressive week to win the Swedish Open - just as we predicted. It might be a quick turnaround, but the Chilean is in form and full of confidence.

Laslo Djere (34.00)

Laslo Djere was one of the stars of the South American clay court season, winning his first title at the Brazil Open. Reached the semi-finals of the Croatia Open last week, so has the form to produce another deep run.
