The 25-year-old started 2025 in Brisbane where she suffered a 6-2 7-5 second round defeat to Yulia Putintseva.

The American cruised through her opening three matches in Hobart, defeating Rebecca Sramkova, Maria Lourdes Carle and Dayana Yastremska in straight sets.

Kessler beat Elina Avanesyan 4-6 6-3 6-4 in the semi-finals despite winning just 1/7 break points. She won 54% of her 1st serves and will surely have to improve to beat Mertens.
