The Hopman Cup is an annual international tennis tournament held in Australia in early January each year. Eight mixed-gender teams are selected to compete on an indoor hardcourt, with the tournament a popular start to the tennis season and lead-up to the Australian Open.

The Hopman Cup is named after Harry Hopman, an Australian tennis player and coach who led his nation to 15 Davis Cup titles between 1938 and 1969. The Hopman Cup began in 1989 and is an official event on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) calendar.

The Hopman Cup was played at the Burswood Dome in Perth until 2013 when the tournament moved to the Perth Arena. Unlike the Davis Cup and Fed Cup which are exclusively for men or women, the Hopman Cup features male and female players are combined teams.

Each team consists of one male player and one female player with matches between two nations decided by one women's singles match, one men's singles match and one mixed doubles match.

The eight teams are split into two groups of four with two teams seeded. Each team plays against the other teams in their group with the top team in each group meeting in the final to decide the champions.

The United States have appeared in all but one tournament, the inaugural Hopman Cup in 1989, winning a record six titles and finishing runners-up on six occasions. Spain have won four Hopman Cup’s, with Slovakia and Switzerland winning three each.

Some of the world’s best tennis players have appeared at the Hopcan Cup such as John McEnroe,  Steffi Graf, Boris Becker, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

Switzerland are the defending champions after Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic got past Germany’s Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber 2-1 in the final.
