Xinyu Wang vs Elena Rybakina Preview
Elena Rybakina arrives in Strasbourg after a disappointing clay swing, failing to win more than one match in Madrid or Rome. That said, it probably won't take her long to return to the ravaging form of the early season.
Xinyu Wang had to dig deep in her opening match to defeat Eva Lys in straight sets. She equaled her Strasbourg performance from last year but remains in search of consistency after a difficult season.

Xinyu Wang Form
Wang has struggled for wins this season, suffering eight first-round losses in 10 tournaments from Brisbane to Rome.
She found some success with a semifinal in Singapore and a third-round finish in Indian Wells before recording a 125K quarterfinal on the clay of Parma last week.
On Monday, Wang ended up saving 10 of 11 breakpoints and rallying from 2-5 down in the second set to defeat Eva Lys, 6-4, 7-5, earning her second career win in Strasbourg.
Last year, she joined the second round of this tournament but was no match for eventual champion Madison Keys. Indeed, Wang has never been to a clay quarterfinal on tour.
Elena Rybakina Overview
- Current rank: 12
- Career high rank: 3
- ELO rank: 10
- Season record: 19-9
- Career Strasbourg record: 5-2 (Final in 2024)
- Form against outside top-20 players on clay: 18-2 in last 20 meetings
Elena Rybakina Form
Rybakina had a strong start to the season, winning multiple matches in every tournament from Melbourne to Indian Wells.
It was an extension of her strong 2024 showing when she became the champion or runner-up of five tournaments, including on the clay of Stuttgart.
The Kazakh has taken a dip in the last few months, winning only two matches across Miami, Madrid, and Rome. She otherwise went 12-2 on clay last year.
It makes sense that the former world No. 3 has made the effort to play in Strasbourg just days before Roland-Garros in order to garner some match wins.
Five years ago, Rybakina roared into the final of Strasbourg without losing a set and stood a set away from beating Elina Svitolina for the trophy.
Verdict
Rybakina enters as the overwhelming favorite based on every merit, including past success in Strasbourg and general clay-court career. There is little chance she will even drop a set to Xinyu Wang.
