The 2025 Italian Open begins in Rome tomorrow with all Top 10 players in women's tennis taking part. World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka is in fine form after taking out the title in Madrid and set to go all the way again.

Iga Swiate has won three titles in Madrid and was champion last year, defeating Sabalenka in the final. The Pole has been below her best this year but the three-time French Open champion always commands respect on clay.

The remaining contenders include Coco Gauff, Mirra Andreeva and Elina Svitolina. Let's break down the top five players in contention for the title and examine their prospects of claiming victory in 2025.

Top Contenders

Aryna Sabalenka (WTA Rank: 1 - Odds: 4.00)

Aryna Sabalenka was solid on hard courts, winning titles in Brisbane and Miami alongside final defeats at the Australian Open and Indian Wells Open. She won the Madrid Open last week and comes to Rome having won 19 of her previous 21 matches.

Iga Swiatek (WTA Rank: 2 - Odds: 4.00)

Iga Swiatek hasn't won a title this year but has a strong record on clay court, winning three French Open titles and three titles in Rome. The World No.2 was uhumiliated in the semi-finals in Madrid last week, thrashed 6-1 6-1 by Coco Gauff.

Coco Gauff (WTA Rank: 3 - Odds: 7.50)

Coco Gauff won her opening nine matches this year but hadn't got to a semi-final until Madrid last week. She thrashed Swiatek 6-1 6-1 but couldn't shock Sabalenka in the final, going down 6-3 7-6.

Mirra Andreeva (WTA Rank: 7 - Odds: 8.50)

Mirra Andreeva went on a 13 match winning run this year which included back-to-back WTA 1000 titles in Dubai and Indian Wells. She met Gauff in the Madrid Open quarter-finals last week, going down 7-5 6-1.

Elina Svitolina (WTA Rank: 15 - Odds: 23.00)

Elina Svitolina is close to breaking back into the Top 10 after finding her form on clay. She won the title in Rouen without losing a set and got to the semi-finals in Madrid, beaten 6-3 7-5 by Sabalenka.

Road to the final

Aryna Sabalenka should have few problems reaching the semi-finals where Coco Gauff is a likely opponent.

Iga Swiatek could meet Elina Svitolina in the fourth round with Madison Keys, Paula Badosa or Naomi Osaka awaiting in the quarter-finals. Jelena Ostapenko and Jessica Pegula are likely semi-finalists.
