Alexander Bublik has really stepped things up during this clay swing, picking up six of his nine tour-level wins for the year in this stretch.

He clocked his best result of 2025 last week, reaching the round of 16 at the Madrid Masters, and he’s kept that momentum going in Rome with a solid win over Roman Safiullin.

A few days ago in Madrid, Bublik knocked off Andrey Rublev in the third round, which was just his second career win over a top-10 player on clay. Now he’s gearing up for another big test against another top-10 opponent on the same surface.

This will be Bublik’s third straight appearance in the second round of the Rome Masters. He beat Ben Shelton at this stage in 2023 but went down to Nuno Borges in the same round last year.

Casper Ruud had a rough start to the clay swing, failing to defend big points at the Monte Carlo Masters and Barcelona, which saw him drop out of the ATP top 10.

But the Norwegian bounced back brilliantly, claiming the biggest title of his career at the Madrid Masters last week and shooting straight back into the top 10.

The next challenge for Ruud is to make the most of this hard-earned momentum and put together a few more strong results through the rest of the clay season, which is by far his favourite part of the year.

He’ll definitely be targeting a deep run in Rome, where he’s made the semifinals three times before – in 2020, 2022 and 2023 – and he’ll be confident he can do it again.
