Camilo Ugo Carabelli vs Alexander Zverev Preview

Camilo Ugo Carabelli has lost in straight sets in all five matches against Top 20 players. Alexander Zverev is the defending champion in Rome and should be far too good for the Argentine.

Camilo Ugo Carabelli Form

Camilo Ugo Carabelli is 21-11 this year, 26 of those matches coming on clay. He won the Rosario Challenger in February, returning to the ATP Tour with semi-final appearances in Rio de Janeiro and Santiago.

The 25-year-old has had a slow start on the clay courts in Europe, going out in the second round in Bucharest followed by first round exits in Monte-Carlo and Madrid.

The Argentine edged past Pablo Carreno Busta 6-2 1-6 6-3 in the first round in Rome, saving 0/3 break points.

Alexander Zverev Form

Alexander Zverev won his opening eight matches this year, the run ending in the Australian Open final where he went down to Jannik Sinner. He competed on clay in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, both ending in quarter-final exits.

The 28-year-old saw no improvement on hard courts, going out early in Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami. His return to clay didn’t last long, beaten by Matteo Berrettini in his opening match in Monte-Carlo.

The World No.2 put that behind him to win the title in Munich, beating Tallon Griekspoor and Fabian Marozsan en route to the final where he defeated Ben Shelton 6-2 6-4.

The German competed in Madrid, defeating Roberto Bautista Agut and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina before a fourth round exit to Francisco Cerundolo.

Verdict

Camilo Ugo Carabelli has never beaten a Top 20 player and meets the defending champion in Rome. I think Alexander Zverev’s serve will be too strong, the German to win in straight sets.
