Jannik Sinner Form

Jannik Sinner sent shockwaves through the tour, especially among his rivals, with a truly dominant performance against Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals. It's rare to see one top-10 player overwhelm another the way Sinner did.

He came out firing right from the first game, handing Ruud a bagel in the opening set and nearly repeating the feat in the second. The final scoreline was a commanding 6-0, 6-1.

What makes this result even more remarkable is that it came in Sinner's very first tournament back after a three-month break. To dismantle the recently crowned Madrid Masters champion and a seasoned clay-court player like Ruud so convincingly is nothing short of jaw-dropping.

Sinner has never won a title or even made it to the semifinals at the Rome Masters before, but he is now the clear favourite to lift the trophy. A win here would also mark the first time an Italian has captured the title in the Open Era.

He is currently riding a 25-match winning streak and hasn't lost to a player outside the top 10 since the Madrid Masters earlier this year.

Tommy Paul Form

Tommy Paul, on the other hand, had to grind his way past an unfit Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals. Hurkacz, who recently underwent surgery, wasn’t at his best, yet Paul still faced challenges. He gave up eight break point chances and lost his serve three times, even though he managed to win in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3.

Paul’s performances haven’t been particularly convincing, not just in this tournament but throughout the 2025 season. That said, he got the job done in Rome, which is what mattered most.

Coming into the event, he needed to defend his semifinal points from last year — a tough ask on paper — but he managed to pull it off.

His only previous semifinal at a clay Masters event also came here in Rome, back in 2024, when he lost a tightly contested three-set match to the underdog Nicolas Jarry.

Paul has seven wins from 21 career matches against top-5 players, but he’s currently on a four-match losing streak against that group.
