Novak Djokovic will win a record 36th Masters 1000 title if he overcomes Diego Schwartzman in the Rome Masters final on Monday. Four-time champion Djokovic is favourite to continue his near perfect 2020 as Schwartzman prepares for a first Masters series final appearance in the Italian Open.

Novak Djokovic Form


Novak Djokovic is yet to lose a game on the court in 2020 with his solitary defeat being his controversial disqualification from the US Open at Flushing Meadows for striking a line judge.

He won all six matches the ATP Cup to help Serbia win the title and then won the Australian Open after beating Milos Raonic, Roger Federer and Dominic Thiem in Melbourne.

The World No. 1 won in Dubai, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 6-4 in the final. The Serbian then won the Western and Southern Open, beating Tennys Sandgren, Jan-Lennard Struff, Roberto Bautista Agut and Milos Raonic.

At the Rome Masters, Djokovic has firmly bounced back from the US Open disappointment. He beat Salvatore Caruso and compatriot Filip Krajinovic in straight sets before needing three-sets to see off Dominik Koepfer in the quarter-final. 

It was another routine straight sets win over Casper Ruud in Sunday's semi-final to set up this shot at the Masters 1000 record.

Diego Schwartzman started 2020 by winning one of four matches at the ATP Cup, and then bumped into Djokovic in the fourth round of the Australian Open as he lost in straight sets.

The Argentina lost in the final of the Cordoba Open to Christian Garin, winning just four games after taking the opening set in his home country. Schwartzman then withdrew before his semi-final against Pedro Sousa in Buenos Aires.

He returned to action in the Western & Southern Open and was beaten in the second round by Reilly Opelka, before suffering a five-set defeat in the first round of the US Open at the hands of Cameron Norrie.

Schwartzman reached the quarter-finals in Kitzbuhel before finding his best tennis is Rome. He beat John Millman and Hubert Hurkacz before dumping Rafael Nadal out in a quarter-final upset. 

The Argentine then won a three-hour battle with Denis Shapovalov to set up a first Masters final appearance.
