A field devoid of any top-30 players compete at the 2019 WTA Jiangxi Open, with many of the world’s biggest stars sitting out after the US Open. 2019 WTA Jiangxi Nanchang Open Top Contenders

Shuai Zhang (7.00)

Shuai Zhang is the highest-ranked player in the field and the World No. 32 will have the advantage of playing in front of her home crowd. Zhang had a decent hardcourt swing and reached the third round of the US Open. Additionally, both of her career titles have come in China, so she is understandably favourite in Jiangxi.

Magda Linette (7.50)

Magda Linette was a big winner for us at the WTA Bronx Open in the lead-up to the US Open, and I expect her to shine again at the Jiangxi Open. After winning her first career title in New York, where she produced an eight-match winning run, she came up short at Flushing Meadows to top-ranked Naomi Osaka in the second round. Looking at this field in Nanchang, Linette is the stand-out player on form and is my pick to win the title.

Yafan Wang (7.50)

Yafan Wang won her first career title in Acapulco earlier this season, and while her recent results have not been exactly stellar, many of her early-round defeats have come against higher-ranked players. An emphatic win over Karolina Pliskova in Cincinnati her stand-out performance in the past few weeks.

Rebecca Peterson (8.00)

Rebecca Peterson’s best performances in recent weeks came in Cincinnati where she won four matches, including a win over Johanna Konta. She arrives in Nanchang after a second round showing at the US Open. The Swede is yet to win a WTA Tour title, but has the game to end her wait this week.

Elena Rybakina (9.00)

Elena Rybakina is quietly making her way up the WTA Tour rankings and has put together some good results this season, including her first title in Bucharest and a semi-final in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Her current hardcourt results have not been great, but as one of the most talented players at the Jiangxi Open, Rybakina has a fine chance to shine this week.

Shuai Peng (13.00)

Shuai Peng may not be in the best of form, but she is the most successful player at the Jiangxi Open as the tournament’s only two-time winner.She also won three matches during US Open qualifying before pushing World No. 29 Maria Sakkari hard in the first round.

Kristýna Plíšková (15.00)

Kristýna Plíšková may not possess the elite abilities of her twin sister Karolina, but she does boast a similarly powerful game that can cause problems to most players. Considering how even the playing field is this week, Pliskova has a fine chance to win her second career title.

Sam Stosur (21.00)

Now in the twilight years of her career, Sam Stosur has traditionally done well during this section of the season, with three of her titles coming during the Asian hardcourt swing. As the only Grand Slam winner in the field (2011 US Open) Stosur has the pedigree to roll back the years this week.
