Liudmilla Samsonova is coming off a confidence-boosting quarterfinal finish in Indian Wells, where she defeated Daria Kasatkina and Jasmine Paolini before losing to Aryna Sabalenka.

This was a much-needed result for Samsonova, given she could not win two matches in a row in eight of nine tournaments from Seoul in September to Dubai in February.

She has only won three main draw matches in her four past visits to Miami, but it may not matter in light of her form on North American hard courts.
