The form Jack Draper’s showing at the moment is genuine top-10 quality, and if Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has any edge in this matchup, it’s that they’re playing on clay, particularly with the slow conditions at Monte Carlo.

That said, it’s still hard to fully trust the Spaniard, given his well-documented struggles with staying composed during matches. He’s had plenty of issues holding onto leads and closing out sets. So, I’d rather look at him in the handicap market than back him outright.

Jack Draper Form

This European clay swing is easily Jack Draper's toughest stretch of the season, given his limited experience and lack of success on the surface.

A strong start here would go a long way in helping him get through it without too much trouble.

Thankfully, he’s kicked things off in style with a dominant straight-sets win over Marcos Giron in the opening round at the Monte Carlo Masters.

Draper’s in cracking form this year, playing some of the best tennis of his career, so he’d rightly be feeling confident about his chances on clay as well.

He’s chalked up 14 wins and just three losses so far in 2024, with highlights including a title at Indian Wells, a runner-up finish in Doha, and breaking into the top 10 for the first time.

A win in Monte Carlo on Thursday would be another feather in his cap this season, as it would send him through to his biggest quarterfinal yet on clay.

So far in his career, he’s only reached the semifinals on clay twice, both at ATP 250 events: Munich in 2024 and Lyon in 2023.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina only managed three wins over top-50 opponents in the whole of 2024, a year that ended up being a real setback for his development.

But he’s turned things around brilliantly in early 2025 and is starting to hit his stride again.

He’s climbed back into the top 50 in the ATP rankings and is racking up plenty of wins.

His latest victory over Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the second round at the Monte Carlo Masters marked his tenth win over a top-50 player this season.

It also brought his total wins for 2025 to 16, just four shy of his entire tally from last year.

Davidovich Fokina is a proper all-court player and has always shown he can do damage on clay.

At the Monte Carlo Masters in particular, he’s had a fair bit of success. He’s 2-0 in round of 16 matches here, having reached the quarterfinals on debut in 2021 and finishing runner-up to Stefanos Tsitsipas in 2022.
