Nuno Borges vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Preview

Nuno Borges is 0-12 against Top 10 players and Stefanos Tsitsipas has been virtually unbeatable in Monte-Carlo since 2021. I am expecting Tsitsipas to win in straight sets.

Nuno Borges Form

Nuno Borges is 16-11 this year, unable to improve on a semi-final appearance in Auckland.

The Portuguese switched to clay in Marrakech, beating Raphael Collignon before a 6-4 6-4 quarter-final defeat to Roberto Carballes Baena.

Borges had some luck in the first round in Monte-Carlo, leading 6-2 3-0 when Holger Rune retired. He edged past Pedro Martinez 7-5 6-7 6-4, 6/9 break points.

Stefanos Tsitsipas Form

Stefanos Tsitsipas had a slow start to the year, improving in Dubai where he won the title. He got past Karen Khachanov, Matteo Berrettini and Tallon Griekspoor on his way to the final where he beat Felix Auger Aliassime 6-3 6-3.

The Greek couldn’t keep it going in Indian Wells, sufferinf a disappointing fourth round exit against Holger Rune. He lost in straight sets to Sebastian Korda in the third round in Miami.

Tsitsipas was in trouble in Monte-Carlo where he has won three of the previous four tournaments. He turned it around to get past Jordan Thompson 4-6 6-4 6-2, winning 60% of his 2nd serves and saving 5/7 break points.

Verdict

Nuno Borges has lost all 12 matches against Top 10 players and I don’t expect that record to improve against Stefanos Tsitsipas. Tsitsipas loves playing in Monte-Carlo and is backed to win in straight sets.
