Anhelina Kalinina Overview

  • Current rank: 65
  • Career high rank: 25
  • ELO rank: 81
  • Season record: 7-10 (1-7 in last eight matches)
  • Rouen history: Semifinal in debut in 2024
  • Career best clay-court results: Finalist (2021 Budapest, 2023 Rome)

Anhelina Kalinina Form

Anhelina Kalinina defeated three capable opponents in straight sets when she debuted in Rouen last year: Alizé Cornet, Martina Trevisan, and Mirra Andreeva.

She climbed all the way to the semifinals and even stood one set away from reaching her third career clay-court final.

Kalinina has been to a total of six WTA semifinals in her entire career, two of which came on French clay courts in 2024 alone (Rouen and Strasbourg).

Up to her return to Rouen, she finds herself in a difficult position, having suffered 11 opening-round losses in her last 15 tournaments, including in the last three (Indian Wells, Miami, and Charleston).

However, her semifinal run in Brisbane and the quarterfinal in Cluj-Napoca prove that she still has the sharpness to break out of her shell anytime.

Nao Hibino Overview

  • Current rank: 216
  • Career high rank: 56
  • ELO rank: 194
  • Season record: 1-2 on tour-level main draws
  • Rouen record: 0-1
  • Last clay-court main draw win on tour: 2021 Roland-Garros

Nao Hibino Form

Nao Hibino finds herself in a terrible place after winning only four WTA main draw matches in all of 2024, and just one in 2025 so far (Jule Niemeier in Auckland).

Ranked in the top 100 as recently as July 2024, the Japanese player decided to go down to the ITF circuit to rediscover her form without any success at all.

Her circumstances are considerably worse when it comes to clay courts, a surface on which she once was the semifinalist in Strasbourg, France, in 2020.

Aged 30, she has won a total of nine tour-level main draw matches on clay courts in her entire career and does not seem to be in a position to collect a tenth.

Verdict

Nao Hibino does not have much of a pedigree on clay courts. In addition to her general poor form, she is expected to be the clear underdog against an unsteady Anhelina Kalinina.
