Aleksandar Kovacevic Form
Aleksandar Kovacevic had a slow start to the season, beaten by Christopher Eubanks in the Canberra Challenger first round. He failed to qualify at the Australian Open, eliminated by World No.239 Gauthier Onclin.
The American found some form at the Oeiras Challenger, winning the title without facing a Top 150 player. He stayed on the Challenger circuit in Quimper, going out in the second round to Matteo Martineau.
The 26-year-old qualified in Montpellier where he beat 6th seed David Goffin 6-2 3-6 6-4 in the first round. His serve hasn’t been broken in his last two matches, beating Mattia Bellucci 7-5 7-6 and Alexander Bublik 6-3 6-2.
Verdict
Aleksandar Kovacevic has won 11 of his last 12 matches but Andrey Rublev represents a big step up in class. This is an intriguing clash, my money on Kovacevic upsetting the odds in Montpellier.
