Four players have won two singles at the Qatar Open. Anastasia Myskina, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka & Petra Kvitová all won two titles.

Kvitová is the defending champion after beating Garbiñe Muguruza 6-2, 6-1 in the 2021 final.

The first WTA Qatar Open was held in 2001 with Martina Hingis beating Sandrine Testud 6-3, 6-2 in the final.

History


The first tournament women's tournament in Qatar was held in 2001 as a Tier III tournament. In 2004 the tournament became a Tier II category event with prize money increasing to $585,000.

In 2008 the women's Qatar Open became a Tier I event with prize money rising to $2,500,000. The WTA Qatar Open returned in 2011 as a Premier Event.

The tournament was a Premier 5 event from 2012 to 2014, returned as a Premier event in 2015 and switched back to a Premier 5 tournament in 2016.

In 2021 the Qatar Open became a WTA 500 tournament.
