Carlos Alcaraz vs Jaume Munar Preview

Carlos Alcaraz is very short at Queen’s despite beating Adam Walton 6-4 7-6 in the first round. Jaume Munar can win enough games on his serve to take this one over 18.5 games.

Carlos Alcaraz Form

Carlos Alcaraz won the Rotterdam Open in February but failed to reach another final on hard courts. He was close to unstoppable on clay, winning the Monte-Carlo Masters and getting to the final in Barcelona where he lost to Holger Rune.

The 22-year-old didn’t compete in Madrid, returning in Rome where he won another title, taking out Jannik Sinner 7-6 6-1 in the final. He claimed the French Open title, meeting Sinner again in the final where he saved three match points in an epic 5 sets victory.

The Spaniard got past Adam Walton 6-4 7-6 in the first round at Queen’s, winning 75% of his 2nd serves and saving two break points.

Queen’s Club Best Result: First Appearance

Jaume Munar Form

Jaume Munar had a strong start to the year, reaching the semi-finals in Hong Kong and Dallas. Those performances were not enough to take the 28-year-old into the Top 50 for the first time in his career.

The Spaniard hasn’t reached a quarter-final since, his best result coming in a fourth round appearance at the Rome Masterswhere he lost 6-3 6-4 against Casper Ruud.

Munar was leading 7-5 in the first round in Queen’s when Jordan Thompson retired.

Verdict

Jaume Munar is an unpredictable player who has a win against Carlos Alcaraz under his belt. I am avoiding the short odds on the World No.2 and backing over 18.5 games at Queen’s Club.
