Borna Coric returned to action at the Western & Southern Open but exited the tournament at the second round stage. He lost in straight sets to David Goffin.
The Croatia was in much better form at the US Open, enjoying a run to the quarter-finals. He beat Pablo Andujar 7-5 6-3 6-1 but needed five sets to get past both Juan Ignacio Londero (7-5 4-6 6-7 6-2 6-2) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (6-7 6-4 4-6 7-5 7-6).

At the Rome Masters, Coric was dumped out in the second round after a 6-7 5-7 defeat to Stefano Travaglia. He then fell at the first hurdle at the French Open when going down 4-6 6-3 3-6 4-6 to Norbert Gombos.
Coric has rediscovered the winning habit in St Petersburg. Straight sets wins over Feliciano Lopez (6-3 7-6), Roman Safiullin (6-3 7-5) and Reilly Opelka (7-6 6-3) earned him a spot in the semi-finals, where he came from a set down to beat Milos Raonic 1-6 6-1 6-4.
