Dominic Thiem reached the Australian Open final where he went down 6-4 4-6 2-6 6-3 6-4 to Novak Djokovic.

The 26-year-old fell to Gianluca Mager in the Rio De Janeiro quarter-finals before a first round exit to Filip Krajinovic at the Western & Southern Open.

Thiem received a walkover against Jaume Antoni Munar Clar in the US Open first round after leading 7-6 6-3. He beat World No. 124 Sumit Nagal in straight sets before a 4 set win against 31st seed Marin Cilic.

The Austrian beat World No.21 Felix Auger Aliassime 7-6 6-1 6-1 in the fourth round. He produced a dominant performance in in the quarter-finals, beating 21st seed Alex de Minaur 6-1 6-2 6-4.

Dominic Thiem overcame a right ankle injury and a set point in the second and third sets to beat third seed Daniil Medvedev 6-2 7-6 7-6 in the semi-finals.

This will be Thiem’s fourth Grand Slam final and first US Open final. He was a beaten finalist at the 2018 & 2019 French Opens and 2020 Australian Open.
