2018 Wimbledon Women’s Semi Final Preview & Tips

Four players remain in the hunt for Wimbledon glory in 2018 and the semi-finals promise to be an exciting affair. Jelena Ostapenko faces off with Angelique Kerber for one spot in the final while Serena Willams will be chasing another shot at a Wimbledon title she takes on Julia Goerges.

Jelena Ostapenko vs Angelique Kerber

Angelique Kerber has been in outstanding form and booked her place in the semi-finals with a straight sets victory Darya Kasatkina. The 2016 Wimbledon Finalist has been in deadly form winning 63% of points on her first serve.

The German has been clinical on the defensive side of her game and didn’t register a single unforced error in her win over Katakana. Kerber will be hoping to advance to her second Wimbledon Final and has won eight of her last nine matches on grass.

Jelena Ostapenko has looked equally at home on the grass courts of the All-England club and is coming off a straight sets victory over Dominika Cibulkova. The Latvian is yet to drop a set at the tournament and will be hoping to make her second Grand Slam Finals appearance after winning the French Open in 2017. Her form has been equally as impressive on grass, winning seven of her last eight matches.

This will be the first clash between these two players and both have been in outstanding form. Ostapenko had 28 unforced errors in her quarter final match-up and a similar display against the German could cost her a place in the final.

The German has played some clinical tennis to get to this point and another clean game will see her come out on top. We're confidently predicting that Kerber will be making an appearance in her second Wimbledon Final with a victory in three sets.

Best Bet: Angelique Kerber 2-1 win @ 3.75

Julia Goerges vs Serena Williams

After injury curtailed her comeback at the French Open at Rolland Garros, Serena Williams will be hungry for a place in another Wimbledon Final. The former champion would love nothing more than to cap off her comeback with the 2018 singles title.

William has only dropped one set for the tournament and was able to come back from a set down to Italian Camilla Giorgi to record a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory to reach the semi-finals.

Julia Gorges represents her biggest challenge to date in the tournament. The German star was able to come back from a set down to defeat Kiki Bertens in a memorable quarter final win 3-6,7-5,6-1.

While Williams has been out of action for some time she showed that she has lost none of the touch that helped her capture seven Wimbledon titles. Williams is a class above her opponent and will shine on the centre court stage to record a memorable straight sets win.

Best Bet: Serena Williams 2-0 win @ 1.80
