Joao Fonseca won his first ATP Tour title in February, on clay in Buenos Aires. He won the Phoenix Challenger but has been unable to get to the quarter-finals in his previous seven tournaments.

The Brazilian started the grass court swing in Halle, a first round defeat to Flavio Cobolli. He beat Zizou Bergs at Eastbourne before a narrow 6-3 6-7 7-5 second round loss against Taylor Fritz.

The 18-year-old took out local hope Jacob Fearnley 6-4 6-1 7-6 in the first round at Wimbledon, saving all four break points.

Jenson Brooksby disappointed on hard courts before winning his first event on clay. He knocked out Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe on his way to winning the title in Houston.

The American couldn’t maintain that form on clay and had a poor start on grass. He lost to World No.266 Oliver Crawford in the second round at the Ilkley Challenger and suffered a 6-3 6-1 first round exit against Jack Draper at Queen's Club.

Brooksby exceeded expectations at Eastbourne where he was a qualifier. He got past Ugo Humbert in the semi-finals but couldn’t stick with Taylor Fritz in the final, going down 7-5 6-1.

The 24-year-old got off to a strong start at Wimbledon, beating the in-form Tallon Griekspoor 6-2 7-5 6-3. He hit 30 winners and 12 unforced errors, saving 4/5 break points.
