Emma Navarro is 31-14 on the WTA Tour this year, getting to semi-finals in Auckland and San Diego either side of winning the Hobart International.

The 23-year-old was unable to transfer that form to clay, unable to get past the second rounds in Charleston, Madrid, Rome and Strasbourg. She went further at the French Open, knocked out in the fourth round by Aryna Sabalenka.

The American had a poor start on grass, beaten 6-4 6-3 by Katerina Siniakova in the first round in Berlin. She reached the semi-finals in Bad Homburg, going down 7-5 2-6 6-3 to Diana Shnaider.
