Novak Djokovic vs Marton Fucsovics Predictions

Novak Djokovic has won 12 consecutive sets since losing his first set of the tournament to Jack Draper, and had little trouble with clay-court specialist Cristian Garin.

Marton Fucsovics should be a tougher opponent; the talented Hungarian has ousted three seeds already and has never lost to Djokovic in straight sets. Djokovic is still likely to be the winner.

  • Novak Djokovic has won his last 18 matches at Wimbledon
  • Novak Djokovic has seen over 30.5 games in 4 of his last 5 Grand Slam quarterfinal matches

Novak Djokovic Form

Novak Djokovic extended his winning streak at Wimbledon to 18 straight matches with a 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 victory over 17th seed Cristian Garin.

Garin is a clay-court specialist and it was not a challenging match for Djokovic, although he did get frustrated in the second set in which Garin saved five break points (and earned two on the Djokovic serve) before finally succumbing.

Djokovic has a 9-2 record in Wimbledon quarterfinals and last lost to Tomas Berdych in 2017 via retirement.

With his sights set on a first Channel Slam and a calendar-year Grand Slam, Djokovic looks fit and motivated and is playing very well.

Marton Fucsovics Form

Marton Fucsovics was a junior Wimbledon champion in 2010 but has never been past the second round before.

Fucsovics made the last 16 at the Australian Open in 2018 and 2020 and the French Open in 2020. Although he is only 2-18 against top-10 players, he has often taken sets from them.

After reaching the Rotterdam final in February, Fucsovics’ form fell off but he has kindled a rare run at Wimbledon. Three of his four opponents so far have been seeded players: He beat 19th seed Jannik Sinner in four sets, ninth seed Diego Schwartzman in four sets and finally fifth seed Andrey Rublev.

Against Rublev, Fucsovics surged back from two sets to one down and dropped just three games in the last two sets. Rublev’s level did fall off bizarrely in the fifth but it was still a strong performance from the talented Hungarian.

Verdict

Fucsovics has a very big serve and an attacking game and is on great form. Djokovic is very likely to be the winner however, but it might be a tougher match than his victories over Garin and Anderson.
