Qinwen Zheng reached the Australian Open final where she lost to Aryna Sabalenka. She went on a great run on clay, winning the Palermo Open and Olympic Games.

It was the start of a run where she has now won 30 of her last 35 matches. The 22-year-old lost to Sabalenka in the US Open quarter-finals, reached the semi-finals in Beijing and suffered another final defeat to Sabalenka in Wuhan.

The World No.7 bounced back by winning the Japan Open, beating two Top 50 players on her way to the final where she took out Sofia Kenin 7-6 6-3.

Zheng suffered a fifth straight defeat to Sabalenka in her opening match at the WTA Finals, going down 6-3 6-4. She beat Elena Rybakina 7-6 3-6 6-1 and crushed Jasmine Paolini 6-1 6-1 to storm into the semi-finals.
