Coco Gauff Overview

  • Current rank: 4
  • Career high rank: 2
  • ELO rank: 4
  • Season record: 16-6
  • Career Madrid record: 7-4 (R16 in 2022, 2024)

Coco Gauff Form

Coco Gauff has navigated a shaky start to her Madrid campaign, recovering from a disastrous 0-6 first set against Dayana Yastremska to win in three sets.

She followed up with a composed straight-sets victory over Ann Li, despite committing nearly two dozen unforced errors to ten winners.

The 21-year-old has twice reached the last-16 stage at the Madrid Open but fell short of advancing in 2022 and 2024, losing to Simona Halep and Madison Keys, respectively.

She is now aiming to break her quarterfinal barrier at this event, having reached 10 clay-court quarterfinals in her career, including four at Roland-Garros.

Gauff has struggled to match her late-season dominance from 2024, where she captured titles in Beijing and the WTA Finals.

Her best result in 2025 remains her Australian Open quarterfinal run, having failed to win more than two matches in any tournament since then.

Belinda Bencic Overview

  • Current rank: 42
  • Career high rank: 4
  • ELO rank: 15
  • Season record: 21-7
  • Career Madrid record: 12-5 (SF in 2019)

Belinda Bencic Form

Belinda Bencic has impressed after returning to Madrid for the first time since 2022, with straight-set wins over Zeynep Sonmez and Clara Tauson in the opening rounds.

However, her third-round match against Beatriz Haddad Maia tested her limits, as she overcame a 1-4 deficit in the deciding set and saved critical breakpoints at 5-5 to prevail in a deciding tiebreak.

Since her comeback as a mother, the former world No. 4 has been exceptional, already breaking into the top 50.

She claimed the Abu Dhabi title earlier this year and reached significant rounds at Indian Wells (QF) and the Australian Open (4R).

Bencic has a solid history at the Madrid Open, having reached the quarterfinal twice in her five previous appearances, converting the 2019 instance into her career's only red clay-court semifinal.

Verdict

Coco Gauff aims for her first Madrid quarterfinal against Belinda Bencic. Gauff has powered through, while Bencic has shown grit in tough matches. This should be a close battle, with Gauff having a slight advantage.
