The 2024 Oscars takes place on Sunday, March 10 and the bookmakers are predicting a big haul for ‘Oppenheimer’.

The movie, which tells the story of J Robert Oppenheimer, the “father of the atomic bomb”, is odds-on in a bunch of categories, including Best Picture and Best Picture.

And ahead of Sunday’s ceremony, here is a rundown of the biggest awards and the latest odds.

Best Picture Odds

There is no such thing as a guaranteed bet, but it would be a major shock to see a film other than ‘Oppenheimer’ walk away with Best Picture.

That is certainly how the bookmakers feel, with the movie starring Cillian Murphy considered a 1/100 favourite ahead of 20/1 ‘Poor Things’ and 25/1 ‘The Holdovers’.

And of course, if ‘Oppenheimer’ is a massive favourite for Best Picture, it is no surprise to see its director heading up the Best Director market.

Christopher Nolan, who has earned two nominations in the past, is the 1/50 favourite ahead of ‘Poor Things’ director Yorgos Lanthimos at 14/1 and the legendary Martin Scorcese (Killers Of The Flower Moon) at 20/1.

Best Actor Odds

This market is not quite the “foregone conclusion” that the Best Picture market is, but the bookmakers believe there is a standout pick in the Best Actor market.

Cillian Murphy’s portrayal of J Robert Oppenheimer has made him the 1/20 favourite, with ‘The Holdovers’ star Paul Giamatti his main rival at 13/2.

Bradley Cooper, who earned plenty of plaudits for his role in ‘Maestro’ is the only other shortlisted actor shorter than 50/1, having been priced at 17/1 at the time of writing.

Best Actress Odds

The Best Actress market has an odds-on favourite, but this is one of the closest of all of the big markets for the 2024 Oscars.

‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’ star Lily Gladstone heads up the market at 2/5, but at 6/4 the bookmakers are not ruling out Emma Stone receiving the award for her performance in ‘Poor Things’.

‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse’ faced a tough challenge following up ‘Into The Spider-Verse’, but it lived up to the hype.

It drew big bucks and has already won plenty of awards, so it is no surprise at all to see it heading up the Best Animated Feature Film market at 7/20, ahead of 8/5 ‘The Boy And The Heron’.

This is another market in which ‘Oppenheimer’ heads the betting, but this is one of the markets where the bookmakers do believe Christopher Nolan’s movie has a threat.

‘Oppenheimer’ is the current favourite at 33/100, but it does face some competition from 7/4 second favourite, ‘The Zone Of Interest’.

‘Barbie’ may not be a frontrunner in many markets, but if there was ever one tailor-made for this movie it is Best Costume.

Turning a classic toy into a major motion picture was always a gamble, but the directors got the look absolutely right, and as a result ‘Barbie’ is a 19/20 second favourite behind 3/4 ‘Poor Things’.
