Alex Pereira vs Khalil Rountree Jr Predictions & Tips

Alex Pereira is tipped to retain the light-heavyweight title by knockout.

Both men are strikers so this fight is unlikely to hit the mat, and we give Pereira the edge in this one.

He is the more accurate striker and boasts fight-finishing power, so we expect to see a KO finish.

  • 9 of Alex Pereira’s 11 career wins have been by KO/TKO
  • 8 of Alex Pereira's 9 stoppage wins have been in round 1 or 2
  • Khalil Rountree Jr has lost 5 times during his UFC career
  • 3 of Khalil Rountree Jr’s last 5 losses have ended in the 1st round

Alex Pereira Form

Alex Pereira is the defending UFC light-heavyweight champion with a professional record of 11-2 (9 KOs).

Pereira crossed over to mixed martial arts after a successful kickboxing career, and after four fights he inked a contract with the UFC.

He made an immediate splash and a first-round knockout of Sean Strickland earned him a title fight after only three outings.

‘Poatan’ challenged former kickboxing rival Israel Adesanya for the middleweight title, and sprung a major upset when he knocked out ‘The Last Stylebender’ in the final round.

Pereira failed to hold onto the belt as he lost the rematch via second-round KO, and following that loss he made the move up to light-heavyweight.

The 37-year-old Brazilian has not looked back since making the move, reeling off four consecutive wins on his way to the top of the ladder.

He edged Jan Blachowicz via split decision in his debut, and in only his second fight at the weight he knocked out Jiri Prochazka in the second round to win the vacant title.

Pereira has made two successful defences of the belt already this year, and he has made quick work of both of them.

He knocked out Jamahal Hill in the first round back in April, and then in June he stopped Prochazka in the second round of their rematch.

Khalil Rountree Jr Form

Khalil Rountree Jr is the #8 ranked light-heavyweight contender with a career record of 13-5 (9 KOs) and 1 No Contest.

Rountree Jr debuted in the UFC back in July 2016 and got off to a rough start as he dropped his first two outings.

He won three of his next four fights to get his career back on track, only to then lose three of his next four as his rise up the ladder stalled.

The 34-year-old American was knocked out in the first round by Johnny Walker, and then failed to build on a points win over Eryk Anders as he lost his next two.

Rountree Jr was knocked out by Ion Cutelaba in the first round, before dropping the fight with Marcin Prachnio by decision.

He has not lost since then however, reeling off five consecutive wins to earn this shot at the title.

‘The War Horse’ started this streak with a couple of second-round TKO wins over Modestas Bukauskas and Karl Roberson.

Rountree Jr then edged Dustin Jacoby via split decision, before getting back to his fight-finishing ways with stoppage wins over Chris Daukaus, in the first, and Anthony Smith, in the third.

Verdict

Alex Pereira has been on a tear since moving up to light-heavyweight last year.

He is wrecking opponents with his perfect mix of accuracy and power, and we expect that to propel him to another stoppage win here.
