UFC 309 Preview

The headline fight sees Jon Jones make his first defence of the UFC heavyweight title against two-time former champion Stipe Miocic.

Former light-heavyweight champion Jones ended a three-year absence in March 2023 when he tapped out Ciryl Gane inside two minutes to become heavyweight champion of the world.

His first defence of the title had to be delayed until now, so when he steps inside the Octagon it will have been over 18 months since he last competed.

However, his opponent, Stipe Miocic, will be ending a much longer absence from the UFC.

The fighting fireman from Ohio has not fought since losing the heavyweight title for the second time in March 2021, when he was knocked Francis Ngannou.

So can Miocic make a blockbuster return to action and become a three-time champion at Madison Square Garden, or will Jones make a successful first defence of the heavyweight crown?
