Virtual Grand National sees over £2.6m raised for NHS Charities Together

The 2020 Virtual Grand National has been hailed by bookmakers as a major triumph exceeding everyone’s expectations.

With all bookmaker profits going to the NHS Charities Together, over £2.6million pounds was raised.

In the absence of the real Grand National, the virtual version was embraced by millions of people, with 4.8 million watching the ITV broadcast of the race, and many of them having a fun flutter on the race. Ladbrokes revealed that the average stakes was £2, which highlighted the recreational nature of this unprecedented event.

Ladbrokes spokesperson Nicola McGeady told FreeTips.com: "The Virtual Grand National has been an incredible success and that is reflected in the fantastic sum of money raised for the NHS Charities Together.

"With the Grand National cancelled along with all major sports, we really hoped that the virtual version would bring the nation together for some light relief during these difficult times and that is exactly what happened when Potter’s Corner romped home to win at 18/1.

"Our customers embraced the event for what it was and enjoyed having a fun flutter on their favourite virtual mount. It was wonderful to see so many people celebrate the National and all for a wonderful cause."
