Sydney Swans vs Fremantle Dockers Verdict

Sydney have home advantage in thie Preliminary Final but I'm backing them to come up short with Fremantle backed to secure a Grand Final spot. Take the Dockers in the 1-39 point range with Serong, Curnow and Treacy in the props.

Seven of the past eight matches between the two sides have been decided by less than 39 points.
The Dockers have won two of the past three against the Swans at the SCG.
Josh Treacy has kicked 12 goals from his past four against the Swans, while Charlie Curnow has kicked 15 goals in his past four against the Dockers.

Fremantle were 38-point winners in the only meeting between the sides this season, producing a remarkable second-half turnaround at Optus Stadium in Round 18.

The Dockers were 0.11 at half-time and trailed by 22 points before kicking 15.10 to Sydney's 6.4 after the break, including nine goals in the final quarter.

Charlie Curnow kicked five goals for Sydney, while Josh Treacy booted four for Fremantle. Errol Gulden led the Swans with 30 disposals, while Caleb Serong and Murphy Reid had 28 each for the Dockers.

Sydney had won the previous two meetings, although Fremantle have won two of their past three against the Swans at the SCG. Three of the past four clashes between the sides have been decided by 12 points or fewer.

Sydney are surging into the Preliminary Final after producing a stunning 53-point Qualifying Final victory over Brisbane at the SCG.

The Swans won the inside-50 count 69-52 and clearances 45-35, with their reshaped midfield taking control around the contest before their forwards capitalised.

Errol Gulden was brilliant with 34 disposals, eight clearances and 915 metres gained, while Logan McDonald kicked six goals and Charlie Curnow and Tom Papley added five each as Sydney piled on 21.15 (141).

The Swans have produced some enormous numbers at the SCG this season and will have home-ground advantage again in the Preliminary Final.

Sydney have won 11 of their 12 matches at the SCG in 2026, with their past three victories at the venue all coming by more than 50 points, including the Qualifying Final against Brisbane.

They are averaging 118 points per game at the SCG this season and their ability to generate repeat opportunities has been evident recently, recording 69 inside 50s against Brisbane after having 70 in their 53-point Round 24 victory over North Melbourne.

Fremantle Dockers Form

Fremantle bounced back strongly from their disappointing Qualifying Final loss to Hawthorn, defeating Geelong by 14 points in a high-scoring Semi Final at Optus Stadium.

The Dockers made a much better start, kicking six goals in the opening term and leading by 31 points before Geelong surged to an eight-point advantage during the third quarter.

Fremantle responded when challenged, with Luke Jackson taking over late in the term before the Dockers held on for a 120-106 victory.

Jackson finished with 25 disposals, 35 hitouts and two goals, while Patrick Voss kicked four and Shai Bolton had 26 disposals. Fremantle also dominated the clearances 44-31, including 23-13 from the centre.

The Dockers now need to take that form on the road, but travelling has not been a major problem this season.

Fremantle have compiled a 7-4 record outside Western Australia and have already shown they can win at the SCG, while their only meeting with Sydney this season resulted in a 38-point victory in Round 18.
