Another brilliant Glorious Goodwood meeting gets underway on Tuesday. The card on day one is headlined by the Group One Goodwood Cup, a race that has been won by all of flat racing's most famous stayers, and the top two from last month's Ascot Gold Cup head this betting heat.

2026 Goodwood Cup Runners
Following their stunning showdown in the Ascot Gold Cup, Scandinavia and Trawlerman will do battle again on the opening day of Glorious Goodwood. Scandinavia won this race as a three-year-old last season, and returns to defend his crown. Trawlerman ran a mighty race on his belated reappearance at Royal Ascot, and sits second behind his rival in the Goodwood betting.
Rahiebb takes on the top two again, following a disappointing performance at the Royal meeting. Miss Alpiles finished fifth in the Gold Cup, but despite that excellent run, Ed Walker's mare remains the 66/1 outsider of the entire field.
Lazy Griff will represent Charlie Johnston, after a comfortable victory in the Marathon at Sandown. Amiloc steps up to two miles for the first time, having shaped like a stayer when fifth in the Hardwicke Stakes. Illinois narrowly got the better of French Master when the two met in the Queen Alexandra Stakes, and both have been confirmed for the feature race on day one of Glorious Goodwood.

I'm really looking forward to this second clash between Scandinavia and Trawlerman.
Given it was his first run of the season, Trawlerman ran an absolute blinder to push a race-fit Scandinavia so hard, and William Buick's mount is sure to strip fitter for that outing. Scandinavia will be an incredibly tough nut to crack still, especially if Illinois runs to pester Trawlerman at the head of the field.
At the prices, I'm quite keen to have a small bet on AMILOC (16/1). Ralph Beckett's star won the Cocked Hat Stakes here at Goodwood last season, before following up in the King Edward VII Stakes. Amiloc then bumped into the excellent Al Riffa in the Irish St Leger, before a fantastic fourth behind Ethical Diamond in the Breeders' Cup Turf.
Beckett's gelding was sent off at 8/13 to win the Yorkshire Cup on his seasonal reappearance, but was far too keen under Rossa Ryan and faded rapidly down the home straight. Amiloc then dropped back in trip for the Hardwicke Stakes, and looked much more like his old self, staying on well from off the pace to finish a five-length sixth behind Giavellotto.
That Hardwicke was a Group One race in all but name, so Beckett will have been delighted with his gelding's performance. Connections have opted for this two-mile contest over a tilt at the King George, and Amiloc looks to have every chance of seeing out this extended distance.
