ITV Racing Tips - Friday 9th October

1:15pm Newmarket - Cornwallis Stakes Tips

ARMOR SUPREME (18/1) is a filly that I've taken a shine to this season, and Diego Dias' raider is undoubtedly overpriced in Friday's opening Group Three.

A winner at Goodwood on debut and second in the Marygate, Armor Supreme didn't fire when ninth in a strong renewal of the Queen Mary. She was then heavily backed ahead of the Listed Juvenile Sprint at the Curragh in August and finished her race well to record a straightforward victory.

Armor Supreme then ran creditably when third to hot favourite Drazinda on her French debut in the Prix d'Arenberg. Fillies have a strong record in the Cornwallis Stakes, and Rossa Ryan's mount has plenty of pace drawn on her side of the track.

1:50pm Newmarket - Oh So Sharp Stakes Tips

Newmarket stalwart David Simcock has had an exceptionally quiet season. However, there was a feeling after CHASING DAYLIGHT (13/2) won on debut at Yarmouth that Simcock had unleashed a very decent filly.

Callum Rodriguez's mount drifted out to 11/2 before the off as money came for Watch Party and Sea La Roma. Chasing Daylight was a little keen through the early part of the race, but once Rodriguez asked for an effort, Simcock's filly took off, powering into a three-length lead before cruising home in the final furlong.

This well-bred daughter of Space Blues put that competitive maiden to bed in decisive fashion, and there's clearly a lot more to come. Three of the last six winners of this Group Three came into the race on the back of just one career start, so I'm hopeful that Chasing Daylight's inexperience won't count against her.

2:05pm York - British EBF £100,000 Final Tips

Considering he finished second to future Group Three winner Fuel The Jet in a handicap last time out, SANBONA WARRIOR (18/1) seems overpriced.

William Knight's juvenile sat last at the half-way stage that day, but followed Fuel The Jet through and hit the line strong behind the eventual winner. Danny Tudhope's mount needs to sit a bit handier at York, especially as the ground remains fairly good. However, if he can find a nice early position, then Sanbona Warrior is more than capable of mounting a challenge.

2:25pm Newmarket - Challenge Stakes Tips

A competitive renewal of the Challenge Stakes, for which Flora Of Bermuda tops the betting. I'm going to roll the dice with the other filly in the field, PINA SONATA (8/1), for the thoroughly in-form James Fanshawe yard.

Pina Sonata steps into Group Two company following an excellent victory in the Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster. Danny Muscutt's mount travelled beautifully that day and quickened up well to beat the well-fancied Touleen and a handful of other classy fillies.

Witness Stand will attempt to make all from stall one, and Pina Sonata is positioned nicely to track the only likely front-runner from stall three. Fanshawe's four-year-old will have to raise her game again, but Pina Sonata seems up to this sort of challenge.

2:40pm York - William Hill Finale Handicap Tips

I'm finding it hard to oppose TIERRA DE TORO (10/3) in this 14 furlong handicap. Ralph Beckett's gelding has danced plenty of big dances this term, placing in the London Gold Cup at Newbury before slightly disappointing efforts at Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood.

Tierra Del Toro bounced back with a fine effort in the Melrose over this course-and-distance on his most recent start, finishing a fairly close fourth behind Infraad and Galilean Quality, who've since finished first and third in a Listed race at Ascot. Jason Hart's mount remains on a winnable mark, and Tierre Del Toro can make his class and experience count on Friday.

3:12pm Chepstow - Welsh Champion Hurdle Tips

Over to Chepstow now for the Welsh Champion Hurdle, and I'm not totally sure why HAMLET'S NIGHT (16/1) is so unfancied in the market.

James Owen's five-year-old returns to hurdling after a good victory on the Flat at Yarmouth, which was unexpected given how weak he was in the betting beforehand. Hamlet's Night enjoyed a brilliant autumn over hurdles last season, winning a couple of maidens before going close in the Masterson Holdings Hurdle and the Elite Hurdle at Wincanton.

This handicap mark of 128 is by no means insurmountable, and Owen is excellent at targeting races with his better horses. Jonny Burke's mount seems likely to run a good race.

3:30pm Newmarket - Old Rowley Cup Handicap Tips

Three of the top four from last month's Heritage Handicap at Ascot will meet again in Friday's handicap feature. I was on DECADE OF TIME (10/1) that day, and he was beaten a head by Turty Tree, with Lord d'Or a length and a bit behind them.

I was keen to back Jack Channon's colt as he stepped up to 12 furlongs for the first time. My money seemed to have gone down the drain as Decade Of Time was outpaced around the bend, but George Bass' mount fought back valiantly and was doing his best work in the final furlong of the contest.

Decade Of Time was upped a couple of pounds for that effort. Yet this lightly raced three-year-old remains well handicapped, and I'm certain that there's more improvement to come from him over this middle distance.
