Leopardstown's Christmas Festival is headlined by the Savills Chase, which takes place on day three of the meeting. Since its creation in 1986, this three-mile chase has been won by many of the sport's finest chasers, and a modern-day great will attempt to become the first horse to win this race for three successive years in 2025.

2025 Savills Chase Runners
Galopin Des Champs headlines the entries, as he looks to complete a history-making hat-trick of victories in this Grade One. Willie Mullins' star is unbeaten around the chase track at Leopardstown, but the favourite will return to his favourite track fresh this year, having missed his intended reappearance in the John Durkan.
Inothewayurthinkin beat Willie Mullins' legend to hand Gavin Cromwell his first Cheltenham Gold Cup in March. Mark Walsh's mount has had a prep-run, having finished a distant fifth in the John Durkan last month, and jumped ahead of Galopin Des Champs in the market when there was talk of Willie Mullins' star heading to Tramore on New Year's Day instead.
Fastorslow was a well-beaten third in the John Durkan on his own comeback from injury, and seems likely to step back up to three miles over Christmas. Gerri Colombe will make his long-awaited return from injury, for the thoroughly in-form Gordon Elliott team.
Grade One-winning novice Champ Kiely, and Brown Advisory winner Lecky Watson, 2024 Grand National winner I Am Maximus, and the first and third from the 2025 Grand National, Nick Rockett and Grangeclare West will also represent Willie Mullins. Gordon Elliott also holds multiple entries, with Grade One winner Croke Park and Betfair Chase third Stellar Story running in the Gigginstown Stud colours.

2025 Savills Chase Tips
I cannot pass up the chance to back GALOPIN DES CHAMPS (2/1) at a price like 2/1 around Leopardstown. Willie Mullins' star is simply superb at this venue, winning all seven of his starts around the chase course.
Willie Mullins mentioned that they were thinking of going down the Al Boum Photo route this season, after Galopin Des Champs suffered a setback earlier in the season. The fact that Paul Townend's mount runs here at Leopardstown must suggest that he's showing all the right signs at home, and this track is Galopin Des Champs' stomping ground.

That being said, there is scope for an each-way bet against the fancied horses. Inothewayurthinkin and Fastorslow have never shown their best around this speed track. Neither has the returning Gerri Colombe, and Champ Kiely doesn't hold much appeal.
I'm going to take a punt on an old favourite of mine, MONTY'S STAR (50/1) at a massive price. Henry de Bromhead made his eight-year-old carry 12-00 in the Coral Gold Cup on his seasonal reappearance, and Monty's Star barely featured in that huge handicap at Newbury, finishing 41 lengths behind Panic Attack in 14th.
On his only previous start around Leopardstown, Monty's Star finished a fairly close fifth behind Galopin Des Champs in the Irish Gold Cup. Rachael Blackmore kept tabs with the leader throughout, and although Monty's Star got outpaced turning for home, he was only beaten eight lengths in the end, and finished a neck behind Inothewayurthinkin.
Darragh O'Keeffe's mount has never won on his first start after a break, so you'd like to think that he'd improve for that return to action at Newbury. De Bromhead's horses aren't in particularly good form, but Monty's Star goes on this kind of ground and handled the track well in February.
