The 2026 Stewards' Cup at Glorious Goodwood promises to be a thrilling event, featuring a packed field of 28 sprinters. Historical data reveals that successful horses are typically aged six or younger, have distance wins, and often come from wide stalls. Based on these trends, Fandom and Mitbaahy emerge as standout selections, each benefitting from favorable draws and strong form profiles. Both are recommended as each-way bets in this competitive and prestigious handicap.

The fifth and final card at Glorious Goodwood is headlined by one of the biggest betting races of the season, the Stewards' Cup. This heritage handicap was first held at Goodwood back in 1840 and 28 top-quality sprinters will enter the stalls ahead of this year's renewal.

I've taken a look through the final field for the Steward's Cup and highlighted some key recurring trends, before picking out our best Glorious Goodwood day five tips.

2026 Stewards Cup Trends

  • 18 of the last 19 winners had won over six furlongs
  • 18 of the last 19 winners were aged six or younger
  • 18 of the last 19 winners had run at least three times already that season
  • 17 of the last 19 winners had won at Class 2 level or above
  • 15 of the last 19 winners came from a double-figure stall
  • 14 of the last 19 winners had won during that season
  • 13 of the last 19 winners ran at Ascot, Newmarket or York on their last start
  • 12 of the last 19 winners carried 9-01 or more
  • 11 of the last 19 winners went off at 10/1 or bigger

Two Tribes won last year's Stewards' Cup just days after landing the International at Ascot, and Richard Spencer's star returns to Goodwood on the back of an excellent second in that seven furlong handicap. The defending champion has been drawn in stall 13, and I'm sure Spencer would have preferred a much wider draw, given that eight of the last ten winners came from gate 15 or wider.

2026 Stewards' Cup Tip 1 - Fandom

I'm going to stick with FANDOM (20/1), who can still be backed at the same price that I took a couple of weeks ago. Richard Hannon's recruit made his stable debut over five furlongs here in May, before placing at York and scoring at Thirsk after finishing sixth at Goodwood.

Sean Levey's mount then attempted to make all from stall one in the Wokingham, only fading out of contention entering the final furlong. Fandom could only finish fourth at Windsor nine days later, and was last seen back over five furlongs at Ascot, staying on well to finish third behind the excellent Dubai Bling.

This stocky son of Showcasing started his career in the USA, winning sprints for Wesley Ward and Brad Cox, before a brief stint with Joseph O'Brien. Fandom then represented Olly Murphy in two sprints at St Moritz in February, losing narrowly on both occasions, and has maintained that solid form since joining Hannon's operation.

This hardy sprinter has shown a great attitude throughout a busy campaign. Fandom handled Goodwood well enough on his stable debut here in May, and he looks to have a great chance after being drawn in stall 22.

2026 Stewards' Cup Tip 2 - Mitbaahy

Another that has landed a favourably high draw is an old favourite of mine, MITBAAHY (14/1). Charlie Hills' recruit won Listed and Group Three sprints during his spell with Roger Varian, before claiming the biggest win of his career under Jamie Spencer in the 2024 Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh.

Mitbaahy only ran once during an injury-ravaged 2025 campaign, and finished last on his reappearance in the Cammidge Trophy. On his handicap debut in the Wokingham, Hills' sprinter roared home from the rear to finish a close fifth behind Double Rush, and wasn't beaten far when pitched back into Pattern company on his most recent outing in the Hackwood Stakes.

Hills is an absolute genius when it comes to training sprinters. Battaash was an absolute world-beater, and Khaadem was the same age as Mitbaahy when he won the first of his two Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes. Jamie Spencer reprises his successful partnership with Mitbaahy for this high-profile handicap assignment, and Hills' star is certainly classy enough to carry 9-8 to victory at Goodwood.
