Leigh Leopards come into Super League Round 27 on a hot streak, having won four of their last five games including a dominant victory over St Helens. Despite Leigh’s home advantage and attacking firepower, Wakefield Trinity’s deep, powerful forward pack and prior win over Leigh this season set up a tightly contested clash. The advice is to back Wakefield with a +10.5 handicap, as the match is likely to be much closer than the odds imply. Look out for Isaiah Vagana as a strong tryscorer pick.

Leigh Leopards vs Wakefield Trinity Super League Round 27 Tips & Prediction

Wakefield +10.5 looks the best play in a game that should be much tighter than the handicap suggests.

Leigh come in off a huge 48-10 win over St Helens and have been one of the form teams in Super League over the second half of the season. However, Wakefield have the stronger forward rotation and already beat the Leopards 18-14 earlier in the year.

The key battle is through the middle. Leigh have enough size and discipline to compete, but Wakefield's depth with Mike McMeeken, Ky Rodwell, Caleb Hamlin-Uele and Caius Faatili should keep them in the contest for the full 80 minutes.

Isaiah Vagana is the tryscorer pick after scoring four tries in his last five appearances.

  • Leigh have won four of their last five matches.
  • Wakefield have won two straight.
  • Leigh have won 12 of their last 15 games.
  • Wakefield beat Leigh 18-14 earlier this season.
  • Leigh need a 28-point win to finish above Wakefield.
  • Isaiah Vagana has scored four tries in his last five games.

Leigh Leopards Form Analysis

Leigh are coming off a statement 48-10 win over St Helens, a result that sealed their playoff place and kept alive their hopes of finishing fourth.

They have now won four of their last five and 12 of their last 15, with Lachlan Lam, Edwin Ipape and David Armstrong giving them plenty of attacking threat.

The Leopards are also very disciplined and generally do a good job of staying in the arm wrestle, which should make this another close contest.

Wakefield Trinity Form Analysis

Wakefield have bounced back well from a three-game losing run, beating Warrington 28-12 and then edging their latest game 25-18.

Their pack remains one of the strongest in the competition and gives them a clear platform to compete with Leigh, while Tom Johnstone, Max Jowitt and Vagana offer plenty of strike out wide.

The main question is execution. Wakefield have had games where they dominate territory without turning enough pressure into points, but their overall profile still makes +10.5 appealing.

Leigh Leopards vs Wakefield Trinity Team News

Leigh have named a strong squad, with David Armstrong, Umyla Hanley, Lachlan Lam, Edwin Ipape and Robbie Mulhern all included. Jack Ashworth and Jack Hughes remain the main fitness concerns.

Wakefield have named an unchanged 21-man squad from last week. Daryl Powell has resisted the temptation to rest players, with Trinity still chasing a home playoff tie and potentially even third place.

Verdict

Leigh are in better recent form and have home advantage, but this looks too close to justify a double-digit handicap.
