The 1000 Guineas headlines another excellent card at Newmarket on Sunday. A large field of 19 fillies has been declared for Sunday's Classic, and Aidan O'Brien's Precise is sure to be popular, given his record in this contest.

2026 1000 Guineas Tip 1 - My Highness

My main ante-post selection for this year's 1000 Guineas was MY HIGHNESS (9/1), who was available at 20/1 when my guide went live.

Having been touched off on debut by another classy filly in Green Spirit, My Highness won her final three juvenile starts. Fabre's filly scored over seven furlongs at Saint Cloud, won a valuable conditions race at Deauville, and returned to that venue to claim a commanding victory in the Prix du Calvados, beating a decent yardstick in Fitzella without too much fuss.

On the back of that performance, Fabre was quoted as saying that they were considering supplementing My Highness for the Fillies' Mile, as he felt both the track and better ground would suit. Fabre and Godolphin decided to put this daughter of Ghaiyyath away for the winter instead, but those quotes encouraged me to back My Highness at the ante-post stage.

Fabre's filly was beaten on her seasonal reappearance in the Prix Imprudence. Connections will have been disappointed to lose out that day, considering she was the 6/5 favourite, but the winner had proven herself over a mile as a juvenile and had the benefit of a recent run under her belt.

It's been a while since France had a winner of the 1000 Guineas, but we've seen several French raiders finish in the places in recent years. Andre Fabre - who trained the last 1000 Guineas winner to come from France, the aptly-named Miss France - has booked Champion Jockey Oisin Murphy for this assignment, and I'd be surprised if My Highness wasn't backed towards the head of the market in the lead-up to Sunday's Classic.

2026 1000 Guineas Tip 2 - Mubasimah

Desert Flower won the 1000 Guineas from stall one 12 months ago, which will give hope to fans of Venetian Sun and Precise, who've been placed in the first two stalls. Wider drawn horses dominated the two previous renewals of this Classic, however, and most of the pace in this year's renewal seems to have been drawn down the centre - so it's hard to predict what sort of impact the draw will have on Sunday's contest.

I'm going to chance my arm with MUBASIMAH (66/1), who looked to have blown her Classic chances with a poor effort in the Nell Gwyn.

Andrew Balding's filly was backed into favouritism that day, and broke smartly down the centre of the track. Once challenged, Mubasimah hung left coming out of the dip before, and finished a fairly tame sixth.

When speaking to the local press after that performance, Balding didn't seem too discouraged. He said that Mubasimah wasn't right in her coat and benefited greatly from the run - which makes the support she received in the betting ring fairly strange.

This daughter of Frankel has done all of her racing in the Rowley Mile, winning her maiden well before a narrow defeat to Calendar Girl in last year's Oh So Sharp Stakes. David Probert has been in the winners since returning from Hong Kong, and has plenty of experience riding on the big stage. If Mibasimah has indeed improved for her reappearance in the Nell Gwyn, then she's capable of mounting a challenge.
