1:45pm Newmarket - Pretty Polly Stakes Tips
I'll be taking a watching brief in Sunday's opener. Esna is the stand-out on form and Sacred Ground is interesting from an Oaks standpoint, but neither is a betting prospect for me.
2:20pm Newmarket - Dahlia Stakes Tips
I thought SURVIE (9/2) shaped with plenty of promise in the Snowdrop Fillies' Stakes at Kempton, and this step up in trip is sure to suit George Boughey's recruit.
I didn't fancy Survie over a mile in the Snowdrop. All of her best form in France came over ten furlongs or further, and she'd performed well on her first two starts for Boughey over a mile-and-a-quarter. Billy Loughnane's mount was held up as usual and found herself outpaced after entering the straight, but kept on well to finish a fairly close fourth behind Pina Sonata, and just a length behind market rival Cathedral.
Ryan Moore returns to Survie's saddle on Sunday. The front-running Qilin Queen is drawn on his immediate outside, with another fancied runner, Falakayeh one stall wider in 12. Survie's high draw in stall ten could turn out to be a positive, and she's certainly classy enough to land Group Two honours.
2:55pm Newmarket - Betfred Handicap Tips
I'm going to chance my arm with POLE STAR (11/1) in this 14-furlong handicap.
Charlie Johnston's gelding won three times during a productive three-year-old campaign, including valuable handicap wins at Haydock and Yarmouth. Jason Hart's mount looked a little one-paced on his final two starts over this distance, and was gelded soon after a limp performance in the Cesarewitch here at Newmarket on October.
Pole Star only finished fourth of six on his return at Newbury, where William Buick wasn't hard on his mount once he'd given his running. Johnston has added a first-time visor for this assignment, and Pole Star ran very well when touched off in a maiden at this meeting 12 months ago.
