The first Irish Classics of the season will take place this weekend. Saturday's card is headlined by the Irish 2000 Guineas, a race that has been won by legends like Grundy, Dubawi and Kingman during its 100-year history.

2026 Irish 2000 Guineas Runners
Gstaad is the overwhelming favourite to win Saturday's Classic. Aidan O'Brien's star won the Coventry Stakes and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at two, and pulled a long way clear of the chasing pack when second to the superb Bow Echo in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.
Charlie Appleby's Distant Storm finished third in that Classic at Newmarket, but still has five lengths to find on the market leader. Fozzy Stack's Thesecretadversary ran well to place fifth at Newmarket, and he too will renew rivalries with Gstaad.
Greenham Stakes winner Alparslan looks set to represent Karl Burke at the Curragh, despite missing the 2000 Guineas. Joseph O'Brien could be represented by multiple Group-race placer Hardy Warrior. Joseph has also entered recent Gowran Park maiden winner Go Just Do It.
Hawk Mountain, Neolithic and Flushing Meadows are potential runners for Ballydoyle. 2000 Guineas seventh Power Blue has been entered by Robson De Aguiar. Other potential runners include Charlie Appleby's second-string Pacific Avenue, Bamako Beach for Mick O'Callaghan, and Johnny Murtagh's Take Charge Star.
2026 Irish 2000 Guineas Tips
The betting tells you that Gstaad is going to take plenty of beating in Saturday's feature. Distant Storm, Thesecretadversary and Power Blue were all well-beaten at Newmarket, and it's hard to see how any of them reverse that form. Alparslan is interesting, but at 9/1 there's little scope for an each-way punt on Karl Burke's raider.
GO JUST DO IT (40/1) is an interesting runner. Joseph O'Brien's charge wasn't beaten far behind Constitution River when held up in the Futurity Stakes at the Curragh last August, before he attempted to make all back down over six furlongs on his final juvenile outing, but was run down by Trojan Warrior.
Joey Sheridan rode Go Just Do It more prominently on his reappearance in a maiden at Gowran Park. O'Brien's colt tanked into contention, and Sheridan seemed ultra-confident that he'd got the race in the bag, allowing his mount to coast home four lengths ahead of the field.
On bare form, that victory at Gowran Park wouldn't give Go Just Do It a chance in this Classic. However, there's clearly much more to come from this strapping son of Kingman and, Gstaad aside, I think the rest of this field is beatable. I could see Go Just Do It outrunning his current lengthy odds.
