ITV Racing Tips - Saturday 27th December

1:05pm Chepstow - Handicap Chase Tips

BALLYBREEZE (5/1) looks to have a strong chance in Saturday's opener. Sam Drinkwater's lightly-raced nine-year-old is two-from-two on the chase track here at Chepstow, having won in 2022 before a narrow victory over Doyouknowwhatimean in April of this year.

Drinkerwater's nine-year-old ran out a convincing winner over Teddy Blue at Newbury prior to that success here at the end of the season. Ballybreeze struggled in a good race at Cheltenham on his reappearance, but that's not a course he particularly enjoys, judging from previous outings around Prestbury Park.

Ballybreeze has been dropped to a winnable mark of 115 for that reappearance run. Drinkwater has booked champion jockey, Sean Bowen for Saturday's outing, and 5/1 underplays his chances.

1:20pm Kempton - Mares' Handicap Hurdle Tips

A cracking little mares' handicap, where STAR WALKING (11/2) looks likely to run well for Harry Fry and the Noel Fehily Racing Club.

Fry's mare won her maiden hurdle around Wincanton last season and wasn't beaten far in the Listed Mares' Novices' Hurdle at Doncaster in March. Star Walking has a couple of lengths to find with Miss Cynthia from that clash, but Dan Skelton's runner boxed her rival in on the rail that day, and Star Walking couldn't make any inroads once she found open air after the final flight.

Fry's six-year-old ran a cracker on her reappearance over three miles around Ascot, where a better jump at the final flight allowed Rockola Vogue to wrestle a narrow victory. Star Walking seems to do her best work around right-handed tracks, and remains open to further progress from her mark of 116.

1:40pm Chepstow - Finale Juvenile Hurdle Tips

The Finale has been an excellent race for punters down the years. Seven of the last ten renewals have been won by the favourite, and the longest SP in that time is just 5/2.

The betting has this between the two leading contenders, and one of them, Manlaga is yet to race in Britain. Macktoad was good on his most recent start at Sandown, but I still don't fancy backing him at such a short price. I'll leave this one alone.

1:55pm Kempton - Wayward Lad Novices' Chase Tips

Chances can be given to at least four of the five runners in this year's Wayward Lad. I'm struggling to decide between them, so I'll take a watching brief and enjoy what promises to be a cracking contest.

2:10pm Chepstow - Handicap Hurdle Tips

Funny things can happen in small-field, amateur rider handicaps, so I'm happy to forgive DOCTOR KILDARE (5/1) his recent defeat at Doncaster, where he was sent off as the 4/9 favourite.

Sam Thomas' five-year-old had won both of his previous starts in handicaps. Doctor Kildare marked his return to action with a comfortable success at Bangor, before following up at Hereford just a week later.

Harvey Barfoot-Saunt couldn't get any response out of the market leader when things started to go wrong at Doncaster. Sam Twiston-Davies takes over in the saddle on Saturday, and the visor he scored with on his first two starts of the season comes back on - having been swapped for blinkers for that lengthy defeat.

2:30pm Kempton - Desert Orchid Handicap Chase Tips

THISTLE ASK (2/1) was slapped with a 14-pound rise for his runaway victory in the Haldon Gold Cup. Yet, Dan Skelton's recruit could still be ahead of the handicapper, and the favourite should relish conditions around Kempton Park.

A winner at Musselburgh on his final start for James Ewert, Thistle Ask has won all three of his starts for the Skeltons. Harry's mount cruised to victory at Kelso and Wetherby, before running his rivals ragged from the front to score in the Haldon Gold Cup.

Saint Segal finished a well-beaten second at Exeter, and he'll still have to give Thistle Ask nine pounds at the weights. Skelton's eight-year-old loves good ground, and might not have much competition for the lead on Saturday.

3:07pm Chepstow - Handicap Chase Tips

Having fluffed his lines when fancied plenty of times last season, MONTREGARD (11/4) has come good this season.

Tom Lacey's six-year-old won nicely on his reappearance at Worcester, before following up at Ascot last month. Lacey's six-year-old tanked through a competitive three mile handicap, and needed only gentle cajoling from Richie McLernon to seal a three length victory.

Montregard has shown plenty of ability throughout his short career, but this seems like a coming-of-age season for Lacey's six-year-old. I doubt that this fresh mark of 122 is anywhere near Montregard's ceiling, and ground conditions at Kempton should be right up his street.
