Point Of Law is the early favourite for the 2026 Melbourne Cup after drawing barrier nine for the Flemington feature. The Ciaron Maher-trained Geelong Cup winner carries 53kg following a 2kg penalty and retains market leadership over Trustyourinstinct, who drew barrier 18 and will be ridden by James McDonald at 57kg, and Hopewell Rock, who starts from barrier 15. Ciaron Maher has four of the top six in the betting, while Joseph O'Brien fields five runners. The barrier draw has strengthened Point Of Law's position ahead of the November 3 race.

Point Of Law is favourite or the 2026 Melbourne Cup after a favourable draw for the Race The Stops A Nation at Flemington.

The latest betting markets for the November 3 showpiece had no real shifts after the barrier draw with Geelong Cup winner Point Of Law retaining favouritism after drawing gate nine.

The Ciaron Maher-trained import defeated Small Fry by half a length on his Australian debut, securing a guaranteed Cup start before receiving a 2kg penalty that lifted his handicap weight to 53kg. He is $6.50 to win the Melbourne Cup.

Trustyourinstinct and Hopewell Rock head the international challenge for the 3200m feature at Flemington.

The Joseph O'Brien-trained Trustyourinstinct sits at $7.50 after drawing barrier 18, with James McDonald booked to ride at 57kg.

He won the Group 2 Curragh Cup over 2800m in July before finishing fourth behind Scandinavia in the Group 1 Irish St Leger, while McDonald is chasing his second Melbourne Cup victory after winning aboard Verry Elleegant in 2021.

Hopewell Rock is next at $10 after drawing barrier 15 for Zac Lloyd, with the George Boughey-trained stayer making his Australian debut following a narrow second to Daiquiri Bay in the Ebor Handicap over 2787m at York.

Shockletz is quoted at $11 after drawing barrier 17, with the Ciaron Maher-trained mare carrying just 51kg following her victory in the Group 3 Archer Stakes over 2500m at Flemington.

She subsequently finished sixth in the Herbert Power Stakes before running second to Soverato in the Group 3 Tesio Stakes, although Harry Coffey's availability is in doubt following a Derby Day fall.

Juja Kibo sits at $12 after drawing barrier 14 for Sam Clipperton, having won the Group 2 Metropolitan over 2400m at Randwick before adding the Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup over 2500m at Flemington.

The Maher-trained gelding received a combined 3.5kg in penalties for those victories, lifting his Melbourne Cup weight to 55kg.

Middle Earth rounds out the leading six at $13 after drawing the inside barrier for Mark Zahra, who will chase his fourth Melbourne Cup victory.

The Maher-trained import carries 56.5kg and finished eighth in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup at his latest appearance, having also contested the Turnbull Stakes earlier in the spring.

Ciaron Maher has seven runners in the final field, including four of the leading six in betting, while Joseph O'Brien saddles up five after Defiantly was ruled out on veterinary grounds. Point Of Law's barrier nine draw contrasts with the wider gates of Trustyourinstinct, Hopewell Rock and Shockletz ahead of Tuesday's race.
